Another record-breaking year for the Open Championship

The 147th Open at Carnoustie broke records again this year with 172,000 fans through the gates over the course of the week – surpassing the previous attendance record of 157 ,000 set at the venue when the Open was held there in 1999.

A key aim of organisers The R&A was also to attract a younger audience to the Championship, and more than 20,000 spectators under the age of 25 attended the event at the iconic Scottish venue.

We are thrilled to have supported The R&A on its successful ticketing and marketing strategy for Carnoustie 2018. If you’re interested in learning more, you can read more about the record attendances at Carnoustie, and how The R&A has already sold an unprecedented number of tickets for the 148th Open at Royal Portrush in 2019, with more than 20% of the entire ticket allocation for the Championship snapped up within 48 hours of going on sale.

Neil Armit, Chief Commercial Officer of the R&A, also talked to SportsPro about our work together helping make the organisation data-driven across all its revenue lines, and its strategy to both drive commercial growth and attract new audiences to golf.
