The 147th Open at Carnoustie broke records again this year with 172,000 fans through the gates over the course of the week – surpassing the previous attendance record of 157 ,000 set at the venue when the Open was held there in 1999.
A key aim of organisers The R&A was also to attract a younger audience to the Championship, and more than 20,000 spectators under the age of 25 attended the event at the iconic Scottish venue.
